A NEW tram-train which will operate tram and rail passenger services in Wales was transported through Bromsgrove on Tuesday, writes Neil Gordon.
The Transport for Wales class 398 Citylink unit was heading to an East Midlands rail centre where it is believed it will undergo testing prior to entering service.
A total of 36 of the units are being built by Stadler Rail in Valencia for the Core Valleys Lines serving Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr.
The environmentally friendly three-car units can carry around 250 passengers while being powered by either battery or overhead line equipment.
The sets will be based at a new £100million depot at Taff’s Well and will be integral to the South Wales Metro project being partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.
