New Rubery salon helps children feel comfortable and have fun whilst getting their hair cut

A NEW salon to help children feel comfortable and have fun whilst getting their hair cut has opened in Rubery.

Trimz and Tantrumz, which is located on New Road, offers a relaxed atmosphere where children can sit in novelty chairs and watch television, as well as play in a play area.

The youngsters can choose to sit in barber chairs such as Optimus Prime, a pink Mini Cooper, white Ferrari, James the Train and a fighter jet and the salon has occasional visits from such special guests as Captain America, Elsa from Frozen and Disney’s Belle.

Owner Natasha Ryan, said: “I’ve been in the hair industry for 18 years and this is my first Salon venture as a business owner which I’m really enjoying.

“My inspiration came during my time working in hair salons where I would see kids turned away for things like moving too much during their haircut and seeing mums and dads feeling uncomfortable while their children were getting restless.

“So the idea was born to create and open a children’s only hair salon and make it as child friendly as possible”.

The 35-year-old has also completed an Autism Aware Certificate so parents can bring their children to the salon and feel at ease.

“I’ve had a lot of parents message me with regards to their children having special needs and if the salon will be okay for them,” she added.

“This is what prompted me to become more aware in this area so I completed my Autism Aware Certificate.

“We have a┬álot of children who on entering the salon do not want their haircut, however with our relaxed atmosphere in the salon they soon relax and enjoy the whole experience.”
