RESIDENTS wanting to take up running can go along to one of several new Couch to 5k nine-week courses starting across Bromsgrove district from today (September 3).

The new sessions take place at Lickey End Recreation Ground at 6pm on Monday, at Catshill Meadow at 9.30am on Tuesdays and at Sanders Park – at 6pm on Wednesdays and 9.30am on Thursdays.

Sunday sessions are also held at Alvechurch Meadows at 9.30am.

The popular running course, designed for absolute beginners, has seen many successes previously.

Sessions are led by qualified run leaders and supported by the NHS and sessions are complemented with downloadable podcasts or app to structure each run and progressively develop running technique, speed and stamina.

Sessions last 45 minutes and are ‘pay as you go’ at £1 per session.

Many graduates from local Couch to 5k groups have joined running groups, including parkrun, and continue their new healthier lifestyle.

Coun Peter Whittaker, whose portfolio covers leisure and cultural services, said staying active throughout the summer was difficult and this provided the perfect way for people to get fit.

“No matter what your current fitness level is, anyone is welcome to come along and give it a go.”
