SINCE my last column for the Bromsgrove Standard, I announced Plan B restrictions will be removed and we will revert to Plan A.

Let’s be clear – this progress is thanks to the strong pharmaceutical defences we have built up and the huge number of people who came forward to get boosted.

With the vaccination programme succeeding in reducing the risk of severe infection and hospitalisations, we have now entered a new chapter in our fight against Covid-19. Whilst it is right the government remains vigilant, it is clear the best step we can all take is to get vaccinated, as we learn to live with the virus.

I was delighted to host street surgeries in Hagley, Alvechurch and Bromsgrove recently and chat to residents, including about these measures.

The cost of living also came up and I was therefore pleased to see the Chancellor outline a support package.

These measures will help over 28,000 households across Bromsgrove with council tax bills, as well as a £200 rebate on energy bills for all households.

We are the fastest growing economy in the G7, and local unemployment is steadily reducing.

These are positive signs, but there is still hard work to be done.
