A NEW era for bus travel got under way this morning with the introduction of the 144A from Longbridge to Bromsgrove.

The service operated by National Express West Midlands covers the stretch of the 144 route no longer part of the First Bus Worcester’s 144 which began terminating from Catshill on Monday.

There were a number of passengers on the inaugural service as it reached its destination from Bromsgrove and, likewise, several people already using the one in the other direction.

A total of 11 services run each day from Monday to Saturday with the first one departing from Bromsgrove at 7.15am and the last one at 7.20pm.

From Longbridge, there are ten buses-a-day with the first one at 7.50pm and the last one at 6.45pm.

The 144A is included in NXWM’s ‘tap’ scheme meaning the first journey of the day costs passengers £2.40 and it is then capped at £4 for the next journey and any others after that.

Passengers will be pleased to know the first services on the opening day both left and arrived at their destinations on time. We broadcast the first service leaving Longbridge live on our Facebook page. Click below to see it.

National Express West Midlands said last week it was ‘delighted’ to be serving Bromsgrove again for the first time in a while.

David Bradford, the operator’s managing director, said he was pleased to announce the launch of the new 144A.

“We hope that new and existing customers will take advantage of our new 144A bus link between Bromsgrove and Longbridge to ensure that it goes from strength to strength.”

The service  – which comes after an agreement between NXWM and Worcestershire County Council – will initially operate for six months while a longer term solution is found.

NXWM also hinted that more buses could be introduced on the route as the trial progressed.
