BROMSGROVE’S Neil Edwards has been rewarded for his paw-some work with the town’s Blue Cross branch as he was named as charity employee of the year at the Petplan and Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) Animal Charity Awards.

Neil, who is the charity’s Bromsgrove rehoming centre manager, received the award on Tuesday at a special ceremony at Telford’s international conference centre.

His work includes helping Blue Cross provide food banks, supporting its home direct service and arranging pet foster care.

He and the other 16 team members at Bromsgrove Blue Cross also build links with local communities through fund-raising and other events.

Neil, who will be celebrating 50 years with Blue Cross next year, said: ”This is amazing, and thanks to Petplan for doing these awards – I never expected it at all.

“The work that we do at Bromsgrove sees us help as many pets as we can a year – 300 or 400 cats and 400 dogs a year – it’s the whole team who do the hard work.

“It’s great to be here to represent the Blue Cross, and it’s a great achievement for the centre.”

The awards, now in their 11th year, celebrate the incredible work conducted by animal charities and not-for-profit organisations.
