A NEGLECTED dog named after a Star Wars character who ended up at the RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre and Hospital in Frankley has a new lease of life after staff relieved him of 1.12kg of matted fur.
The seven-year-old Shih Tzu has been transformed after rescuers removed his tangled locks and he now looks like a different dog.
Ewok was rescued from a property after the animal welfare charity received reports of neglect.
His fur was severely matted and it was clear he had been confined to the house for a very long time as he found the outside world so frightening.

After a much-needed groom where the mass of fur was removed, and plenty of patience, Ewok is starting to blossom into a different dog entirely and he’s now ready to begin his fresh start in a quiet, experienced home where he can continue building his confidence.

Vet nurse Abbie Harvey – who spent more than two hours carefully clipping the matting from Ewok – described it as the worst matting she has ever seen.
She said: “His coat was so matted that his face was hardly visible.
“He needed to be sedated so that we could completely clip the filthy mats off him, revealing very red and sore skin underneath.
“It was apparent Ewok had likely not left the property for a very long time as the outside world was so frightening to him at first.
“Now he is happy for his carers to make a big fuss of him. Belly rubs being his favourite.”

A new owner is now being sought for Ewok to give him the future he deserves.
