A POPULAR Bromsgrove headteacher is retiring this week after working for 37 years at the same school.

Sue Hewitt started working at Meadows First School in 1986, meaning she has taught, in some cases, three generations from the same family.

And, during her time, Mrs Hewitt has seen a lot of change at the school which moved to a new site in 2008.

She became the deputy headteacher and then took the headship in 2010.

Deputy headteacher Wendy Dwyer said everyone at the school was sad to see Mrs Hewitt go, adding there was a huge void to fill.

“Her retirement is truly well deserved.

“Having served in the same school for so long, Sue has had the pleasure of teaching many generations from the same families.

“Her kindness, sense of humour and nurturing philosophy has helped develop the talents of many of our children and we will all really miss her.”

The chair of governors described Mrs Hewitt as ‘a phenomenal leader and teacher during her time at Meadows’.

“She has driven the school forward superbly over the last 15 years through national challenges, such as Covid 19, in addition to navigating the current school financial crisis with her calm demeanour, strategic thinking and reassuring personality.

“She has been more than a headteacher to the children and families of Bromsgrove and will be sorely missed as a sounding board, trusted friend and colleague to so many involved in the teaching profession.

“She is truly one in a million and will be sorely missed by the governing body and Meadows staff and children and we would like to wish her all the best for her well-deserved retirement “

For her retirement, Sue is planning to relax, spend time with her family and embark on some travelling too.
