THE NEW Bromsgrove Youth and Community Hub which offers help and support to young people across the district was visited by MP and Home Secretary Sajid Javid last Friday.
The long-awaited Hub, in the basement of Bromsgrove Baptist Church on New Road, was officially launched on July 19.
MP Sajid Javid had a tour of the three main rooms and learned about how they are used.
Room one is a reception area where people can sit down and have a drink as they wait around.
The ‘business room’ enables young people to get their heads down and focus on work which needs to be done.
And the chill-out zone is designed to let busy minds recharge.
Mr Javid said: “I was incredibly impressed by the Hub, especially the young volunteers who showed me around.
“It will make a real difference to so many youngsters.
“Well done to everyone involved in making it happen.”
Youth and Community Hub Coordinator Sarah Mulhall said there had been a great response to the hub from the young people.
“More volunteers have come forward which has been excellent news for us and just what we want.
“It’s great to see influential people like Mr Javid come and visit us.
“He has been really supportive and understands what our project is all about.”
The Hub space is already being used as a drop in for young people to hang out and spend time with their friends between midday and 6pm Monday to Friday.
There is also a range of coaching run by Headgym which includes helping over 16s get a job, write CVs and prepare for interviews.
Sarah and the rest of the volunteers say they are now looking forward to organising all kinds of fund-raising activities in the future.
