Mother's Day treats for Midlands' mums thanks to Libby Mae's Little Angels

BROMSGROVE charity Libby Mae’s Little Angels has been ensuring around 250 new mums across the Midlands will receive a Mother’s Day treat.

Gift bags and cards will be delivered to mums whose babies are currently hospitalised in 10 neonatal units throughout the region.

The charity will be dropping off special gifts for the mums at the following hospitals – Birmingham Women’s, Birmingham Children’s, Worcestershire Royal, Hereford, Heartlands, Good Hope, City Hospital, Russell’s Hall, Walsall Manor and Wolverhampton New Cross.

The charity was formed in 2013 by Charlotte and Richard Sharratt in memory of their daughter Libby Mae who sadly passed away aged 13 days old following care at two of the above hospitals.

The charity operates on a completely voluntary basis and has to date raised more than £250,000 which has funded equipment and resources to help to save babies’ lives across the Midlands.

Charlotte never got to celebrate a Mother’s Day with Libby Mae and recognises the importance of marking the day for other new mums.

She said: “Some families are experiencing such a traumatic and often unexpected time they are not even aware that it is Mother’s Day.

“The delivery of gifts has become an annual event in the charity’s calendar and the feedback that we have received from families goes to show just how much the gifts are appreciated.”

One said: “I was in the Birmingham Women’s with my beautiful daughter – she was born 15 weeks early and I don’t think I had even realised it was Mother’s Day – but you had remembered and I had a beautiful bag left next to her with treats in and a card wishing me Happy Mothers Day.

“I’ll never forget it. Thank you”

Charlotte and Richard will be spending this weekend having a well-earned break with their eight-year-old son Riley and meeting up with their own mums on Sunday to celebrate Mother’s Day together.
