Mortons in Northfield invites people to remember lost loved ones at annual Tree of Lights

MORTONS is inviting members of the community to write their memorial stars for the annual Tree of Light.

Sessions for people to write the stars will take place at the funeral directors’ in Northfield from 4.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday, December 2, and between 10am and 4pm next Saturday, Decemeber 6.

The stars will then be hung on the illuminated tree outside Mortons in Northfield.

Mortons’ annual Tree of Light Memorial Service, an online service that brings families together in a shared moment of reflection at this meaningful time of year, will be available to watch online from Sunday, December 14.

The service is open to everyone and not only to those Mortons has cared for in the past – it will include reflections from the Mortons team, contributions from clergy and a civil celebrant, performances from a local choir and traditional Christmas carols performed by The Salvation Army Band.

While there is no charge to place a star, the Tree of Light Memorial Service supports Birmingham Mind and Mortons will also make a donation to the Salvation Army, Droitwich Corps, in recognition of their contribution to the service.

Sarah Case, the managing director of Mortons Funeral Directors, said: “Christmas can be a difficult time for anyone who has experienced loss, no matter how much time has passed.

“We hope by writing a star, and the service itself, offer families an opportunity to come together to reflect and celebrate the lives of those they have loved and lost.”

Anyone unable to attend in person can submit their memorial messages online by visiting: mortonstreeoflight.co.uk – the Tree of Light website where the service will be available to view from December 14.

Every message is carefully handwritten by a member of the Mortons team.
