MORE than 140 people were caught either drink or drug-driving on roads across the West Mercia Police force area over the festive season.
From December 18 to New Year’s Eve, 83 drivers were arrested for drink-driving and 61 for drug-driving.
The stops mean 144 motorists are facing a minimum 12-month driving ban, a fine and potentially a prison sentence of up to six months, along with a criminal record.
In the past three years 21 people have died and 111 have seriously injured in crashes on West Mercia’s roads where drink or drugs were recorded as a contributory factor.
