A NEW series of free online talks will be launched next week by the Bromsgrove Society.
The first one – at 7.30pm on Tuesday, January 19, will see popular Midlands actress Jennifer Rigby give a presentation on ‘Shakespeare’s Women’.
During the talk on Zoom, she will give her portrayal of women in the Bard’s plays through extracts which people can sit back and enjoy in the comfort of their own homes.
Viewers need to visit www.bsoc.co.uk to register in advance.
Although it is free, donations, which can be paid on the website, are welcome to cover the costs.
Bromsgrove Society makes donation to church
The Bromsgrove Society has made a £250 donation to the Methodist Centre in lieu of returning in person with its talks in the future.
Last March, when the first lockdown began, the society moved its talks from the venue to online.
The virtual presentations have proved very popular with society members from America and Canada tuning in, along with non-members interested in the topic.
Although the move has been a success for the society, the executive committee was keen to continue to support the venue where the talks have traditionally been held.
Society Chairman Pat Tansell said “We have been very pleased with the number of people who join our regular local history talks online, but we are also aware how much local venues are struggling without the income from regular users such as ourselves.
“Our local churches require income to keep them well maintained and the Society is happy to be able to make a contribution towards costs at the Methodist Centre.
“We hope to be able to return there before too long and are looking at ways to combine the talks at the venue with streaming to an online audience.”
