A NEW police sergeant has been appointed to the Safer Neighbourhood Team for the Hagley, Rubery, Alvechurch and Wythall areas.

Sgt Ian Heeks said he was excited to start his new role.

“Our Safer Neighbourhood policing teams are all about making sure we are engaging with our local residents, solving problems and addressing concerns alongside partner agencies and organisations.

“It’s a priority for me to target what we need to do to meet the needs of our community while taking account of any issues of threat, risk and vulnerability in our areas.”

Insp Lee Page said: “This is an additional sergeant dedicated to building the confidence of communities on our northern borders with Birmingham.

“These areas present specific policing challenges due to their the proximity to the city and residents can occasionally be vulnerable to some cross-border criminality.

“The new post is a further example of our focus on neighbourhood policing as part of the Local Policing Charter and Ian brings a great deal of experience to the role.”

Sgt Heeks said the SNT was there to listen to residents’ concerns or ideas for the way the service could be improved and he urged people to get in touch.
