A MAN was left fighting for his life after an incident in Northfield on Tuesday night.

It happened at 11.45pm at the junction of Genners Lane and Long Nuke Road.

The 63-year-old suffered serious head injuries and, after being given advanced trauma care from a doctor and ambulance staff at the scene he was taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he remains.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes from West Midlands Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are in the early stages of piecing together how this man came about his injuries and I am keeping an open mind.

“We are unclear at this stage whether the man was a pedestrian crossing the road before he was struck, or whether he had already sustained injuries in the road before he was hit by a car.”

The road was closed for a number of hours while the scene was made safe and investigations were carried out.

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
