A MAN has appeared in court after a police officer was assaulted in Bromsgrove on Saturday afternoon.

The officer was attacked at a pub in Austin Road, Charford.

He received treatment by paramedics for injuries to his throat and face but did not need hospital treatment.

James Bateman, 23, of no fixed address, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court this morning.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said a call was received by the police at 5.15pm and an ambulance was sent to the incident.

“We treated one patient, a man, for injuries not thought to be serious. He was then discharged at the scene.”

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
