THE CONDITION of a man and woman hit by a car in Northfield on Monday has deteriorated and they are both fighting for their lives.

West Midlands Police revealed the information earlier today as they reappealed for witnesses or anyone with information on the collision to come forward.

The pedestrians were struck by a black Mercedes near the junction of Frankley Beeches Road, and Sir Herbert Austin Way, just before 1pm on Monday (December 16).

A man and a woman, both aged in their 60s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries which are now considered to be life-threatening to them both.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and he has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man and a woman have been left with very serious injuries and our thoughts are with them and family members at this time.

“We’ve already spoken to a number of potential witnesses but we know there were a lot of other people in the area at the time.

“We’d urge them to come forward so we can establish what happened.”
