STAFF and pupils from Bromsgrove School made a lucky escape on Wednesday (June 14) when their coach overheated and burst into flames.

Year nine pupils were travelling back from a trip to Lower Fourth Camp at Symonds Yat, Wye Valley when everyone on board had to be evacuated from the overheating coach which had stopped on the A449 in Preston Cross, Ledbury.

All pupils including 37 year 9 students and six from lower sixth form, two members of staff and the driver were safely evacuated before the coach caught fire.

When fire crews from Ledbury, Hereford and Ross-on-Wye attended the incident, the 52 seater coach was well alight.

The road was closed in both directions and fire crews extinguished the blaze before leaving at 2.36pm.
