TWO Longbridge students have done their lecturers proud with their efforts in a regional bricklaying competition.

Bricklaying students, Tyler and Josh, who study at South and City College’s Longbridge campus competed in the recent Guild of Bricklayers competition at Stoke-on-Trent College earlier this spring.

Tyler – who’s starting the second year of his brickwork course in September – competed in the junior section of the contest and earned himself a recommendation.

Josh – who’s a level 2 multi-skill student having undertaken bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry and painting and decorating – chose to focus on brickwork for his final further study earned himself third place in the competition.

Both pupils are being taught by former student, now teacher, Mark Lines and were up against 10 strong competitors from all around the country, some of whom had previous experience on-site.

The lads spent several hours completing their projects and were left to understand the drawing of the build models on their own, without any support from staff during the buiild.

Robert Meese, advanced technician at the colleges construction centre said: “A big well done both of you, from South & City College Birmingham.

“Tyler and Josh have done us proud and gotten some invaluable work experience along the way.

“Both students worked very hard to complete their models, only stopping for a half hour lunch break. Now, that’s determination.”
