LIVE BLOG - Students celebrate exam results across Bromsgrove

AFTER a hard fought two years, college and sixth form students across Bromsgrove have been collecting their exam results to find out if all their revision time has paid off.

Pupils will be hoping they’ve got the grades they need to progress onto university, or their preferred training and employment opportunities.

A-Levels are graded A* to E. An A* is an exam score of over 90 per cent, while A is 80 to 89 per cent, B is 70 to 79 per cent, C is 60 to 69 per cent, D is 50 to 59 per cent, and E 40 to 49 per cent. Anything below is ungraded (U).

Waseley Hills High School and Sixth Form

Students and staff at Waseley Hills High School in Rubery are celebrating receiving their A Level grades today.

The school is happy to report a year of pleasing results for students who’s ‘determination’ and ‘hard work’ has produced a strong set of results cementing a foundation for their progression to university, apprenticeships or employment.




Particularly impressive results came from criminology students, of which 83 per cent achieved A* to B while 100 per cent of ICT students received distinction* to merit.

Many students have secured places at a number of top universities across the country including the University of Birmingham, Sheffield, Nottingham and Loughborough.


The school has highlighted some impressive individual performances including:

  • Kirsty Hay who achieved A* in Psychology, A in History and A in Chemistry and will read Psychology at Loughborough University
  • Jessica Ellis who earned A* in Criminology, B in Psychology and B in Sociology and secured her place to study Psychology at University of Birmingham
  • Keelan Green who achieved A in Sociology, B in History and B in English Language and moves on to read Sociology at the University of Sheffield.
  • Ella-Nicole Waterfield who will now study Pharmacy at the University of Birmingham

Tom Preston Principal at Waseley Hills High School said: “We are delighted with how well our Year 13 pupils have performed this year. The results reflect the countless hours and dedication of the students to work towards their examinations.

“Our students’ achievements today demonstrate the tremendous amount of talent and ability, giving them the platform to be successful in their next steps.

“They have been excellent at harnessing the support of their teachers, who have gone above and beyond, to allow the students to flourish.

“We wish them all the very best in their exciting next stage and look forward to seeing their success in the future.”

North Bromsgrove High School and Sixth Form

Sixth Form students and staff at the school are celebrating success as A Level results were released today.

Many students have gained entry to top universities studying a wide range of degree courses, including maths, chemistry, architecture and veterinary science.

Amongst many outstanding results, Lucy Ricketts achieved 3A*s and an A, Amelie Martin also gained 3 A*s, whilst Luke Gudger, Maisy Davies and Dylan Crowe all achieved A*s and 2 A grades.

The sixth form are also delighted others have successfully obtained places on degree level apprenticeships.

“We are delighted with our Sixth Form students who have achieved another pleasing set of examination results this year”, said Headteacher, Nick Gibson. “Our students have worked hard and achieved the necessary grades to go on to pursue their studies at their chosen university and Post 18 destination. “

“The strong set of results are a testament to our students hard work and diligence, support from parents and our committed staff”.

“The support provided by our staff, their dedication, hard work, care, and hours of guidance have paid off and we can feel justifiably proud of our students.”

Director of Sixth Form, Daniel Taylor added, “We are extremely proud of our students. They have demonstrated commitment, determination and engagement throughout their time with us and we are confident that they are all ready for the next stages in their lives.”

South Bromsgrove High School

Students at South Bromsgrove High School are today celebrating an ‘excellent’ set of A Level and Level 3 BTEC results.

Many students will be progressing onto a range of universities, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

The school is particularly proud of Ben Bryant and Naomi Curtis who achieved three A*s and are going on to study Architecture at the University of Sheffield and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds respectively, and Finlay Creed who will be studying Land Economy at the University of Cambridge.

The school’s proud tradition of preparing students for futures in business continues. A number of students will be starting degrees in this area in September including Jessica Doherty who achieved D*D* in her Business BTEC Diploma.

Headteacher Chris Smith said: “We are delighted at the determination that this cohort of students have shown.

“They have met the challenges of their A Level and BTEC study with hard work and resilience, and have been ably supported by their subject teachers.

Director of Sixth Form, Nick Coates added: “I am so proud of everything the students have achieved.

“Not only have they achieved excellent academic results, but they have embraced the extracurricular opportunities on offer at the school, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Eisteddfod and our Sixth Form teaching assistant programme, enabling them to leave us with more than just their academic qualifications. I wish them all the best for the future.”

A message to students from Bromsgrove MP, Bradley Thomas.

“Congratulations to everyone in Bromsgrove and the Villages receiving their A-Level, T-Level and VTQ results today.

“I hope your hard work has paid off and you got the grades you wanted.

“Whatever you choose to do next, whether it’s an apprenticeship, work or if you’re heading to university, I want to wish you every success as you begin a new chapter in your life.”
