LIVE BLOG - Students celebrate exam results across Bromsgrove

AFTER a hard fought two years, college and sixth form students across Bromsgrove have been collecting their exam results to find out if all their revision time has paid off.

Pupils will be hoping they’ve got the grades they need to progress onto university, or their preferred training and employment opportunities.

A-Levels are graded A* to E. An A* is an exam score of over 90 per cent, while A is 80 to 89 per cent, B is 70 to 79 per cent, C is 60 to 69 per cent, D is 50 to 59 per cent, and E 40 to 49 per cent. Anything below is ungraded (U).

South Bromsgrove High School

Students at South Bromsgrove High also performed well in the A level and Level 3 BTEC exams with many heading off to a variety of universities.

Sean Drew achieved four A*s in his A levels and Ross Dyson and Sophie Coleman both achieved three A*s in theirs. Sean is going on to study chemistry at Oxford University, and Ross and Sophie will be studying mathematics at the University of Warwick and Computer Science at the University of Liverpool respectively.




Olivia Harvey also secured a place at Oxford University to read English language and literature.


The school said it was also very proud of Sophie Tolley and Isabelle Wallace, excelling in their BTEC-led programmes and both achieving D*, D,D, with Sophie going on to study Nursing at the University of Derby and Isabelle will be studying Education at Newman University.

Headteacher Chris Smith shared his pride in the students’ achievements.

He said: “We are immensely proud of all the work and accomplishments of our students.

“Their results are a testament to their determination and the unwavering support of our staff and families.

“We look forward to seeing what they will go on to achieve.”

Director of Sixth Form, Nick Coates, added: “This cohort has not only excelled academically but has also made the most of the wider opportunities available at South Bromsgrove.

“From the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and our annual Eisteddfod to VITA, our Sixth Form teaching assistant programme, these students leave us as well-rounded individuals ready to make their mark. I wish them every success in the future.”

 

North Bromsgrove High School

Students at staff at North Bromsgrove High School were celebrating as many students gained entry to top universities to study a wide range of degree courses, including law, maths, cyber security, psychology and zoology.

Among the high performers were Elias who will study law at Exeter, Umar going on to study maths at Birmingham University and Mya who will now pursue a post production and visual effects degree at Falmouth.

Director of Sixth Form, Daniel Taylor added, “We are extremely proud of our students.

“They have demonstrated commitment, determination and engagement throughout their time with us and we are confident that they are all ready for the next steps in their lives.

“They are all to be congratulated and we wish them well for the future.”

Headteacher, Mr Nick Gibson added, “We are proud of our Sixth Form students who have achieved another pleasing set of examination results this year.

“Our teaching and wide range of subjects has enabled students to achieve the necessary grades to go on to pursue their studies at their chosen universities and Post 18 destinations. “

“The strong set of results are a testament to our students hard work and diligence, support from parents and our committed staff”.

“The support provided by our staff, their dedication, hard work, care, and hours of guidance have paid off and we can feel justifiably proud of our students.”

 

Waseley Hills High School and Sixth Form

A-LEVEL students at Waseley Hills High School are celebrating a year of academic progress following receipt of their results today (August 14).

This year’s results represent the highest rate of student progress in the last three years, with students making accelerated levels of achievement beyond their target grades.

Results include a rise in the percentage of students achieving A* to B and a notable increase in students achieving A* to E.

Disadvantaged students at the school also performed better than their non-disadvantaged peers and students with SEND not only met but exceeded their target grades. SEND students achieved, on average, half a grade higher than equivalent peers nationally.

Gemma Loveridge, director of sixth form at Waseley Hills High School, said: “These are the strongest results for many years and are a reflection of the outstanding work ethic of our students and the excellent teaching they receive.

“Their results are well deserved and we wish them all the luck for the future.”

Notable achievements include Joshua Chambers who achieved ABB in maths, further maths and physics and is going to study Mathematics at the University of Lancaster.

Jack Whittaker who achieved ABD in business, biology and physics, and is moving on to study Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology at the University of Plymouth

Emily Dove who achieved BCC in business, biology and maths and is going to study Marine Biology with Oceanography at the University of Liverpool

Hannah Morrall who achieved BBB in English literature, psychology and sociology.

Principal Tom Preston also expressed pride in the students and staff. He said: “Our Sixth Form community has worked tirelessly, supporting one another and striving for excellence.

“These results demonstrate what is possible when ambition, effort, and exceptional teaching come together.”

Woodrush High School

The staff and governors of Woodrush High School Sixth Form say they are delighted with this year’s A level results and are thrilled to share many wonderful success stories.

Issy H, who secured A* A* A* and will be going on to study physics at Birmingham University, Joseph F secured all top grades A* A* A* and will heading to Manchester to study physics, Ella H, banked A* A* A and will progress onto undergraduate study chemistry at Imperial College London and Matthew K attained A* A A and will be studying chemistry at The University of Birmingham.

Phoebe L and Daisy H-S were thrilled to achieve AAA and will go onto study natural sciences and medicine, respectfully.

Other top A* and A grades were achieved by Thomas P, Josh P, Ruby W, Benjamin M, Charlotte G, Lacey D, Finley B, Ciara-Lee M, Sophie L.

A school spokesperson said: “We also have a number of students including Tom P and Owen H who have secured apprenticeships.

“We are so extremely proud of all Woodrush sixth formers and the school community wishes all sixth form Leavers the very best with their future pathways.”

 Elsewhere

Chloe Harris, from Northfield, is realising her dream of heading off to Cambridge University to undertake a six-year veterinary degree.

The 18-year-old, who attended King Edward’s College in Stourbridge, achieved two A*s in chemistry and biology and an A in mathematics.
