AFTER a hard fought two years, Bromsgrove’s GCSE students arrive at schools across the region to collect their results and find out if all their hard work has paid off.

Pupils will be hoping they’ve got the grades they need to progress onto sixth-form, college or other training and employment.

GCSE results are graded from level 9 to 1 rather than the previous alphabetical grading of A to E.

Waseley Hills High School

School leaders are pleased to announced a year of ‘strong results’ with a continued trend of -year-on-year improvements from recent cohorts.

There has been another increase in the number of students achieving a grade 4 (pass) in both English and Maths. The school is also highlighting the achievements of a few stand out pupils.

Tom Preston, Principal at Waseley Hills High School, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students. Their results are a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout their GCSE years.

“It’s been pleasing to see so many students reach heights they didn’t think were possible, and this would not have been possible without their resilience and the brilliant support of the teachers, parents and carers.

“We look forward to seeing what they achieve in the future.”

Students achieving particularly strong results include:

  • Louis Debuse, who achieved grade 9 in biology, English language, food technology, geography, Maths and Spanish. Louis also achieved grade 8 in chemistry and physics.
  • Ami Grabolli, who earnt a grade 9 in geography, grade 8 in biology, drama, English language, maths and psychology and grade 7 in chemistry, English literature and physics.

Headteacher, Nick Gibson said: “Our staff are absolutely thrilled with the fantastic GCSE results our students have achieved.

“They have been an awesome year group, with a wealth of talent, who are celebrating some of our strongest results to date.

“It is a culmination of their hard work, supported by our dedicated staff, and we celebrate together their brilliant successes – we are so proud of them.”

Particular credit goes to Erin W, Olivia W, Oliver L, Ellie C, Alfie S and Jacob B who across their grades accumulated 27 prestigious grade 9s between them.

Deputy headteacher, Donna Hodgson added: “Our students have been a brilliant year group.

“Importantly, we are welcoming a record number of students into our oversubscribed Sixth Form and this is a testament to the expert teaching they have received that puts NBHS as their first choice.”

South Bromsgrove High School

At South, an impressive 10 per cent of students achieved grades 8 or 9 in all of their subjects which the school labelled an ‘incredible achievement’. And 70 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 in both English and maths.

Headteacher Chris Smith said: “We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, which would not be possible without the support of parents, carers and teaching staff.

“Our students are in a strong position to progress onto further education and we are delighted that we will welcome a number of these students back to our outstanding Sixth form in September.”

Miss Morton, Head of Year 11, added: “The results that have been achieved by our students are testament to the hard work and commitment that they have demonstrated, and we are all very proud of these outcomes.

“I am looking forward to seeing many of our Year 11 students in our sixth form and I wish our leavers every success as they move on to the next stage of their educational journey.”
