Line dancing teacher Brenda celebrates 25 years in role with party

DANCERS from Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, Worcester and Birmingham met at All Saints Church Hall for a special evening to celebrate Brenda Whipp teaching line dancing for 25 years.

Over 50 people were on their feet dancing at the event, with Brenda acting as DJ for the evening and enjoying a special anniversary cake.

Brenda started teaching in 1997 when the line dance craze hit Britain.

She said she was getting bored with keep-fit classes and liked the fact you didn’t need a partner to take part in line dancing.

Brenda’s classes are held at Bromsgrove Methodist Church, Bromsgrove Leisure Centre and Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club, and she said she is as happy teaching line dancing now as she was 25 years ago.

She said: “I had teenage experience of stage dancing so it was a natural progression to become an instructor.

“Line dancing was a refreshing way to socialise and keep fit.

“The great thing about this type of dancing is that it incorporates everyone at every level.

“Dancers of all abilities can share the dance floor and execute a dance within their capabilities.

“It was so rewarding to see so many dancers turn up and meet with others they may not have seen for some time, it was a great reunion of like-minded people.”
