A PROUD ten-year-old schoolgirl was thrilled to cut the blue ribbon at a Bromsgrove care home after winning a competition to name a new suite.
Lickey Hills Primary School pupil, Aaliya Cockram, was cheered as she officially opened the Monument Suite at Cofton Park Manor Care Home, Lickey Road.
Aaliya came up with the name after conducting some local research. It is named after a monument built in Monument Lane in 1834 to commemorate the 6th Earl of Plymouth.
The Year 6 pupil was delighted to do the ribbon-cutting honours and meet residents and the team. She is used to visiting the home with her school as part of their joint intergenerational activities.
She said: “The Monument is part of Lickey Hills, part of our community, and when I walk past Monument Lane, I think of everyone at Cofton Park Manor.”
On the day, Aaliya was presented with a certificate, a box of chocolates, and a gift voucher.
Community Relations lead Wendy Sibley said: “It was lovely to hear that there was such meaning in Aaliya’s choice of name entry, and we all thought it would be apt for our new unit, which is now open.”
The new Monument Suite includes six bedrooms with a dedicated dining room, a lounge for family visits, and a balcony terrace overlooking the gardens.
