A TRADITIONAL Wassail will take place at Lickey Hills Country Park on Saturday, January 17, writes Erica Murphy-Hogg.
The annual event has been organised by the Lickey Hills Society to celebrate the orchard by ‘waking up the trees’ with pots and pans and to ensure an abundant harvest for the year ahead.
Everyone is welcome and those wanting to participate should meet at the Visitor Centre in Warren Lane at 4pm.
The event includes star performances by the Black Adder Morris Dancers and Musicians, followed by a Mummers Play.
After the performances, everyone will head towards the Heritage Community Orchard where the Wassail song will commence.
People are encouraged to make as much noise as possible and enjoy any apple based beverage of choice to toast the trees – they can either bring their own drinks or a cup to sample the orchard’s offerings.
The society advises everyone to bring a torch, wear suitable footwear and wrap up warm given the current low, icy temperatures.
