Lickey Hills Rotary Club hosts Max's history talk at its pre-Christmas event

MEMBERS of Lickey Hills Rotary Club had a pre-Christmas event with a difference.

Rather than a Nativity or Carol service, they invited Max Keen from Max Keen Historical Talks.

Club president Jonathan Wilding said the presentation was ‘superb’.

“We’ve had King Charles, Cromwell and Nelson this time we were treated to someone we all knew a lot less about—the fascinating tale of Gordon of Khartoum.

“Max is the History teacher we all wished we’d had and, as usual, he had his audience eating out of his hand from the very first minute of his talk.

“His subjects are very well researched, backed up with an impressive visual package of images and his costumes, but the icing on the cake is that Max ’lives’ the characters he is portraying.”

Members found out about Charles George Gordon – AKA Chinese Gordon, Gordon Pasha, Gordon of Khartoum – a true Victorian hero and a story in true stiff upper lip style that had them on the edge of our seats throughout.

Jonathan added it was a wonderful end to 2021 for the club which planned to book Max again for next December.
