Lickey End the final stop on hiker's rudest-named places charity walk

IN THE hiking version of innuendo bingo, a Cumbria journalist visited Lickey End as part of his fund-raising walk between the rudest-named places in the UK.

James Forrest, 39, hiked the equivalent of 11 marathons in 11 days from his home in Cockermouth in Cumbria to his brother’s in Lickey End in aid of Baggy Trousers – a charity which raises awareness for those with testicular cancer.

James said: “It was a very, very long way to walk just for a childish joke but it was an epic adventure – and I am just sad I did not have time to visit Shitterton in Dorset or Twatt in the Orkney Islands.

“Ultimately, I like to think my journey was a celebration of the very best of British eccentricity and quirkiness.”

Nanny’s Breast, Nob End, Andrew’s Knob, Cocking Yard, Willey Lane were just a few of the roads and hill names James walked and climbed for charity.

Among his favourite places to visit was Twatling Street in Barnt Green and the Gloryhole sculpture in Marple.

His rude ramble also took in several funny pubs, including The Cock In Treacle in Macclesfield, Doffocker Inn in Bolton and Game Cock Inn in Lancashire.

The idea for the adventure came to James, a keen hiker and ambassador for the outdoor brand inov-8, when his brother moved house.

James met his brother at the end of the hike.

“There was a certain poetry to it, with me living in Cockermouth and my brother moving to near Lickey End – and some silly banter led to a bet that I would not do it.

“I hate losing, so I ended up going for it, to prove my brother wrong, and 526kms later I reckon I might just have completed the UK’s rudest hike.”

James used the Marvellous Map of Great British Place Names to plan his double entendre-themed trek.

The hike took place between October 26 and November 5.
