STUDENTS at Bromsgrove School have been treated to an enriching week of lectures to offer practical insights and foster intellectual curiosity among them.
Lower sixth form students took part in the Lecture Week featuring an array of guest speakers and activities designed to ‘broaden horizons and deepen understanding of various topics.
One of the standout sessions was a lecture on cyber security delivered by a detective from the cyber security division of the police force.
This session offered students a unique perspective on the critical challenges and strategies involved in combating cybercrime.
The detective’s expertise and real-world examples provided a compelling look into the evolving landscape of cyber threats and the importance of security measures.
Another highlight of Lecture Week was a talk by Catherine Goodwin, the owner of the innovative marketing firm We Are Alp.
She addressed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in marketing and the ethical considerations surrounding its application.
The 50 L6 students who attended were engaged in a lively discussion on how AI is transforming marketing strategies and the ethical dilemmas that come with its use.
This session was described as ‘particularly impactful’, offering students a chance to explore the intersection of technology and ethics in modern business practices.
Staff at the school said Lecture Week proved to be a ‘valuable component’ of the academic program for its lower sixth students.
A spokesperson for Bromsgrove School added: “The combination of guest speakers and experiential learning activities has not only enhanced their educational experience but also inspired thoughtful discussions and a deeper appreciation for the subjects covered.”
In addition to the in-house lectures, students also embarked on a walking tour of Birmingham’s iconic architecture to encourage appreciation of architectural heritage and contemporary design.
The tour featured notable landmarks such as The Cube, Birmingham Library, The Rotunda, and The Selfridges building.
