A NEW Couch to 5k course is set to start across Bromsgrove this month.

The 9-week courses are designed for absolute beginners and offer an easy way to get fitter and healthier for anyone, whether you’ve never run before or want to get back into being more active.

Anyone that wants to ditch the couch and start running are welcome at any session, you don’t need to book, and sessions are completely free.

There will be sessions on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Monday sessions will be held from 6pm at The Ryland Centre Track (first session – Monday, May 12).

Wednesday sessions will be held at 10am at Sanders Park Bandstand.

Thursday sessions will be held at 9.30am at Catshill Meadow. And Friday sessions will be held at 9am at Hagley Playing Fields.

The weekly sessions are led by Run Leaders who hold official qualifications from England Athletics and provide a course which is fully endorsed by the NHS. Participants are advised to attend three sessions a week on whichever days are ideal.

Bromsgrove District Council Sports Development Officer, Hayley Gwilliam, said: “The health and mental benefits of taking part in a Couch to 5k course are amazing and can really set you up for a good week or day.

“It’s no surprise it is such a high attendance activity, even more so over spring and summer.”
