THE LATEST Covid statistics show the number of cases in Bromsgrove district is down to eight per 100,000.

The figures also illustrate 96 per cent of residents over 70, 89 per cent of those above 50 and 66 per cent of under 50s have all had the jab.

Bromsgrove District Council leader, Coun Karen May, praised the enormous success of the vaccine programme, paying tribute to health workers and volunteers.

“Bromsgrove is opening up again and, whilst we should be cautious, we have an incredible amount to look forward to with record investment announced at the recent budget.”

Coun Michael Thompson had put forward a motion at last night’s meeting for the council leader to write to the Government on behalf of the council, acknowledging the hard work of volunteers and key workers.

But there was not time at the meeting for it to be heard.

In the meeting he congratulated both scientists who developed the vaccine and the health workers and volunteers who administered it.
