Lashbrooke House rubble fire sparks repeated calls for improved security

THE OWNER of Rubery’s Lashbrooke House site has agreed to work with local councillors and residents on future plans after parts of the demolished building were recently set alight.

Photos circulated on social media show piles of wood and rubble on the demolition site engulfed in flames. According to Bromsgrove District Council’s Rubery councillor, Peter McDonald, this ’caused havoc’ for residents with the density of smoke polluting the area.

Following the fire, a short meeting was held with Coun McDonald and the site owners, who have now agreed to work together with residents to ensure the site is secure.

The owner has also agreed to install hoarding around the site and arrange meetings with local residents to discuss plans for the site during redevelopment.

Coun McDonald and local residents have been raising concerns around Lashbrooke House since it closed due to fears the set for demolition site would be accessible to the public and therefore be a danger to trespassers.

The Rubery councillor said: “It’s a wonder with young people having access to the site that there has not been a serious accident.

“Hopefully now the site will be made secure and residents will be fully consulted in future of any further developments.”

The site has been going through a staged demolition process with the majority of the building now reduced to rubble. No formal plans for the future development have been submitted however the site is understood to be reserved for residential use.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for information.
