LABOUR’S prospective parliamentary candidate for Bromsgrove has officially launched her election campaign.
Neena Gill, who represented the West Midlands as a Member of European Parliament for 16 years, launched her campaign to become Bromsgrove’s next MP on Wednesday, June 5.
Her launch was supported by several local Labour councillors and over 20 party members.
Speaking to the group before running a door knocking session to talk to Stoke Prior residents, Neena said: “Every time we speak to people, they tell us that things just aren’t working. Their high streets are looking sad and run down, people are worried about the levels of anti-social behaviour and the lack of police presence in their local areas.
“Labour has committed to address this as one of our key first steps. All communities should feel safe and a thriving high street is a great way to bring people together. A place where people can meet, shop, work and have fun eating and drinking.
“Supporting local businesses is an important way to see the high street thrive grow a stable local economy to visit, I know that. Labour knows that.”
Neena, who was a senior manager with social housing companies before she worked in politics, is passionate about addressing the lack of affordable homes.
“More and more young people are living with their parents into their twenties – rents are high if they move out which makes it even harder to save up a deposit to buy a place of their own.”
“This government has done very little to help young people at all – they want real opportunities not election gimmicks like Rishi Sunak’s teenage Dad’s Army,” added Neena.
Neena and her team will be campaigning daily across the Bromsgrove constituency from Hagley to Stoke Prior in the run up to the election on July 4.
