Keep on slimming - 14 Catshill group members walked the equivalent of America's Route 66 between them in May

MEMBERS of a two Bromsgrove Slimming World groups walked 2,256 miles around the district between them in May – the equivalent of the complete length of the famous Route 66 in America.

The 14 slimmers took on the route – which spans from Chicago to Santa Monica in California – as part of a ‘Move It May’ challenge set them by their consultant Tracey Gardner.

It was aimed at ensuring members continued to get their regular exercise (or daily body magic – as they call it), as well as sticking to their eating plans.

The groups usually attend one of two groups at Catshill Village Hall but have been unable to meet up since the restrictions were put in place in March.

After two weeks the tenacious team had already journeyed further than the distance between Land’s End and John O’Groats so Tracey challenged them to ‘take on Route 66’ and by the end of the month they had smashed it.

She said: “I’m so proud of them – the lockdown has been challenging for the group because we can’t see each other in person.

“Move It May and the Route 66 challenge enabled us to continue to encourage and inspire each other to stay on plan and ensure we got our daily dose of body magic.”

The group have been meeting on Zoom for the last ten weeks and, as they moved into June, the group set themselves another task.

The Join In June scavenger hunt sees members tasked with photographing different objects as they are out and about in a bid to find the ‘David Bailey of Bromsgrove’.

Among the subjects have been a postbox, an animal, flowers, reflections and ‘something funny’.

Pictures have been uploaded to a Facebook page and each week members have been voting on their favourite.

Prizes will be handed out at the end of the month for the best photographs.

Tracey said, despite the lockdown, some slimmers had maintained or reached their targets and two had been awarded their three-and-a-half stone loss awards, while others had successfully lost ten per cent of their body weight.

One had even managed to shed half-a-stone in two weeks with the virtual group’s support.
