BROMSGROVE Men In Sheds welcomed the managing director of the town’s Jukes Insurance Brokers after the company lent its support to the project.
James Godsall visited members after taking part in the Shed Share Scheme which raises vital funds to keep it going.
He said: “It was lovely to meet the Shedders and hear about the great work they do.
“The Shed is a fantastic hub for older men to meet, learn new skills and socialise.
“We’re proud sponsors of the Shedders and the incredible work they do locally.”
He added the Bromsgrove community was very lucky to have schemes such as this from Age UK BRWF to support older residents.
Jo Hughes, from Age UK BRWF, added: “We really are so very grateful to Jukes Insurance Brokers (and to all our other sponsors) for supporting Bromsgrove Men In Sheds, in addition to members of the local community for supporting our various fundraising activities, to help ensure that the Shed can continue.”
She added the past 20 months had shown how important ‘connections’ – such as those forged at the shed – were to people.
Men In Sheds – which operates at a unit on the Metal and Ores Industrial Estate, Stoke Prior – is based on a scheme which originated in Australia in the 1990s as a way of tackling loneliness and social isolation in older men who had retired.
James also helped with the finishing touches to a Reindeer, which is part of a range of handcrafted Christmas products made by the Shedders to help raise funds for the group.
Jukes is also hosting a Christmas raffle with participants given the chance to win the MIS reindeer James helped create.
