BROMSGROVE District Council has been awarded £14.5million through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund announced today, Wednesday, October 27.

The regeneration proposal submitted in July by North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration (NWedR), on behalf of the authority will see £14.5m invested into projects to improve Bromsgrove town centre.

Council Leader Councillor Karen May said: “I am totally ecstatic that we have received this huge amount of funding.

“It is great news for Bromsgrove and means we can get on with making our vision, to massively enhance the prosperity and economic development of the District a wonderful reality.

“This has taken a lot of hard work from our officers and my fellow councillors and I want to thank everyone involved for this amazing outcome.”

The new funding will support the regeneration of prime town centre sites which will be critical to the town centre recovery post-pandemic and long-term town centre vibrancy and vitality.

This will result in significant new commercial, residential, leisure and retail development in town.

The first major project resulting from this funding will be the redevelopment of the former Market Hall site to create a vibrant new commercial and cultural hub for the town centre and regenerate a key brownfield site in the heart of Bromsgrove that has been vacant since the Market Hall was demolished in 2010.

This project will deliver a mix of flexible commercial and cultural space to provide enterprise and innovation support for start-up businesses and businesses with growth potential and a multi-purpose space that will become a town centre destination.
