Join Rubery WI as members yarn bomb New Road for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

MEMBERS of Rubery WI will be outside the Co-op in Rubery next Saturday, May 28, to carry out their annual ‘yarn bombing’ of New Road.

The community are invited to go along and see the knitted and crocheted items which have been created to put on display.

There will also be a cake stall, craft stall and plants for sale.

The theme this year will be The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and children will be challenged to ‘find the corgi’.

The competition will see several of the small dogs – made famous by The Queen – hidden in the village.

There will also be one big corgi to be tracked down.

Rubery WI has been running for more than 80 years.

Members say it is not all ‘jam and Jerusalem’ now and the group’s ages range from 30 to 80.

Rubery WI meets at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of the month at Beacon Church Centre.

The group also holds coffee mornings and has guest speakers at meetings who talk about a range of subjects – from growing vegetables in allotments to making pictures out of street wrappers.

The group also holds a Christmas dinner each year, monthly competitions and a bring and buy sale.
