A JASON Donovan superfan finally met her idol in Bromsgrove last night after she was too shy to meet him when she had the chance 30 years ago.
Helen Barney took part in a phone competition back in 1990 when she was just 13 years old and won a chance to meet the Australian soapstar and singer backstage at a concert.
But as the day approached Helen got cold feet and did not take up the offer.
Three decades later Helen’s husband Scott Harris booked surprise tickets to Jason’s sell-out gig at Artrix and messaged the arts centre on Twitter to ask if there was any chance she could meet him.
Included in the Tweet was the original television clip of shy teenager Helen speaking to Jason Donovan on CBBC.
.@JDonOfficial – Hi #JasonDonovan my wife won a competition in 1990 on @cbbc – but was too shy to meet you at the concert backstage. I have got tickets for her in #Bromsgrove on May 8th @ArtrixArts – I would love it if she could meet you for a photo? It would complete her story. pic.twitter.com/H0dZLLBcuw

Artrix staff and Jason’s team set about making this surprise a reality and with the help of Helen’s husband Scott, kept it top secret until just minutes before Helen finally met Jason last night.
Stephanie Brown who looks after social media for Artrix said: “As soon as I saw the Tweet from Scott I knew we had to try and make this surprise meeting happen.
“There are ‘too many broken hearts in the world’ and we’re so pleased to have been able to mend Helen’s 1990s heartbreak with the help from her very own ‘Scott’.”
A heart-warming meeting followed between the TV and pop legend and his lifelong fan.
Helen said: “I was absolutely astounded when I first realised what was happening.
“I can’t believe Scott has arranged all of this for me, I’m really gobsmacked.
“It was amazing to finally meet Jason, he was just as wonderful as I dreamed he would be all those years ago.”
