Inspirational artist at next Lickey Hills Art Society meeting

AN INSPIRATIONAL and award-winning artist will give a presentation at the next meeting of Lickey Hills Art Society at 7.30pm on September 2 at Longbridge Methodist Church, writes Morgan Hart.

Louise Hancox had a PHD in chemistry and worked as a chief financial officer but when she retired she stumbled across art which soon became her true passion.

Since swapping power suits for pastels, Louise has been creating vivid and lifelike animal art, using both coloured pencils and pastels.

Her subjects include her own four-legged friends – a Persian cat and two Hungarian Vizslas – and creatures seen on her travels, such as sea turtles, gorillas and bears.

A Lickey Hills Art Society spokesperson said: “These furry inspirations add a touch of playfulness to her art and life.

“And her work isn’t just beautiful – it’s a force for positive change.”

Louise is a finalist in the prestigious SAA Artists of the Year 2023 and her pieces contribute to schemes, such as ‘Sketch for Survival’, raising funds for global conservation efforts.

The spokesperson added: “Ultimately her art tells a story – one of resilience, unexpected journeys and an unbreakable bond with the animal kingdom.”

The friendly society always welcomes new members.
