LOVE was in the air at Bromsgrove’s Chandler Court care home when two residents celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary, writes Holly Martin.
Bill, 90 and Maureen, 89, toasted their special day at the Care UK home where they both live.
The couple met in London in the 1940s through mutual friends but lost touch for two years when Bill was called for national service in the RAF.
The couple found each other again when he returned and he took her out dancing.
When asked the secret to a long and happy marriage, they agreed that the key was to ‘never go to bed on an argument’.
On their anniversary, Chandler Court’s chef prepared a surprise romantic meal for the two in the home’s garden, which was decorated specially for the occasion.
Home manager Vongai Mushinga said: “We are honoured to be a part of such a special moment for Bill and Maureen.”
She added the couple were ‘inseparable’.
“We can all learn a thing or two from their long lasting marriage.”
