A FUND-RAISING concert at Bromsgrove’s St John’s Church on Sunday saw hundreds of pounds raised for the victims of the Turkey and Syria earthquakes.
The event was led by Rev Ray Khan and Mazen Salmou whose family in Syria have been affected by the disaster.
The funds will go to the Disasters Emergencies Committee (DEC) appeal and, as well as £600 donated on the night, further cash was send directly to the DEC.
The concert showcased an array of talent, including the Bromsgrove Community Choir, Vintage Class Singers and The St John’s Church Choir.
Groups of students from North and South Bromsgrove High Schools sang together and separately.
Milo Boffey played Einaudi on the piano and Erica Jean from BBC Music Introducing completed the line-up.
Maz thanked everyone on behalf of himself and the people of Syria.
“You have donated your time, effort and money to support earthquake victims.
“It is great to see that the entire community has come together with love to support and help.
“What a great example of humanity and love you made – you have shown amazing resilience and determination to help others.”
Jo Slade, from The Friends of St John’s, described the concert as ‘incredible’ and added: “Huge thanks to everyone who made the concert a wonderful occasion, the performers, the organisers and the tech team, and to those who came to support this important cause.”
And the Vintage Class Singers said it was such a joy and a pleasure to be part of the event and to be surrounded by so many talented performers.
“Thank you to all that gave their time organising, running the evening and putting together such a heartwarming programme in order to raise much needed funds.”
