THIS YEAR’S Best-Dressed Easter Window in Rubery competition was judged by the Standard yesterday (Good Friday).

Around 15 traders took part in the contest which is now in its third year.

They came up with some very creative and elaborate designs which included eggs, chicks, rabbits and even spring lambs.

The winner, for the second year running, was the Farm Animal and Bird Sanctuary. The shop window had an extensive display which included toilet rolls transformed into a flock of sheep.

Jo White, who runs the Farm Animal and Bird Sanctuary, said: “We are delighted to have won the competition again.

“It was all down to Margaret Brown our shop manager – she has a flash of inspiration and then gets to work.

“Her son made the sheep out of the toilet rolls and we’ve had lots of nice comments about them.”

The sanctuary rescues unwanted farm animals and provides them with a home for the rest of their lives.

She said: “They really pulled out all the stops this year.

“There was a lot more detail than we have seen in previous years.

“You can see a lot of effort has been put in and it has certainly brightened up the village for Easter.

“Well done to everyone who got creative and took part – I’d like to wish everyone a very happy Easter.”
