A GROUP of scouts had an exciting day of water sports last weekend at Pikes Pool near Bromsgrove, writes Matteo Pirelli.

A total of 30 young people from Romsley St Kenelm’s Scouts, who were aged from nine to 16, learnt how to paddleboard and build a raft from barrels and ropes.

They then tested it out on the water.

The event was supported by Dacia Cars which provided a £375 grant as part of the company’s Scouts Outdoor Adventure Fund, 30 young people aged from 9 to 16 spent the day learning how to paddleboard and build a raft from barrels and ropes before taking it to the water.

Pikes Pool is run by Blackwell Adventure which is owned by the Birmingham Scouts and is one of the leading activity centres in the area.

Volunteer Andy Shepherd said: “The scouts had a wonderful time in the outdoors, taking part in activities that taught teamwork, co-operation and other key skills for life.

“The chilly water didn’t deter them at all, with most of the youngsters jumping into the pool to enjoy some wild swimming as well.”

A Dacia Cars spokesperson said the firm had partnered with the scouts, the UK’s largest youth movement, to help make adventures affordable and accessible for young people.

“To make it happen, we’ve established an Outdoor Adventure Fund, which is available to any young person or volunteer who is involved in Scouting.”
