A TOTAL of 2,273 visitors headed to this year’s Bromsgrove Beer and Cider Festival which returned to the town’s rugby club between Thursday and Saturday after a three-year gap.

Thirsty drinkers had 144 real ales, nine Keykeg beers and 53 ciders and perries to choose from at the event, which was organised by Redditch and Bromsgrove CAMRA (Campaign For Real Ale).

The first beer to finish was the local Brewery, Woodcote Brewing Co’s KeyKeg beer Randan Ale and the volunteers’ choice for beer of the festival was Vocation and Amundsen’s beer named ‘Hawking’.

This year’s festival had a Beatles theme and the ‘Yellow Pubmarine’ was the logo.

Music from the 1960s was provided on the Friday night by The Reflections and husband and wife duo ‘Karmalyte’ took to the stage on Thursday and Saturday with a more chilled out acoustic Beatles set.

BRMG community radio was also in attendance, keeping the public and volunteers entertained.

The Court Leet opened the festival on Thursday night with the tradition of beer tasting, and blessing of the beer.

Friday night saw Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid visit and he tested some gluten free beers.

There was beer left for the hard-working volunteers at the end and an impressive £952.81 was raised for the Primrose Hospice and Family Support Centre – the designated festival charity – through donations of unused beer tokens.
