AN OPEN day at the Rubery Sheldon John Connelly (RSJC) crown green bowling club has been hailed a great success after 17 people turned up to have a go and find out more about the game, including one who was four years old.
Nine people signed up to be new members at the club which is based behind the co-op in St Chad’s Park, New Road.
Of those, there were several over 60s who will be able to help out behind the scenes as well as join teams.
Jerome Turner, one of the RSJC committee members, said: “Given the fact we had 32 members before, we have increased our membership by more than a quarter and given there are eight people in a bowls team, we have effectively got more than a whole new team.”
He added there was a steady stream of people all day and it was also the first time in a while some of the existing members had come down to play.
“It was a great day all round,” added Jerome.
