HUNDREDS of people turned out to Rubery’s Christmas lights switch-on which took place on Saturday.

The entertainment started around 3pm with live performances from The Snow Queens and duo Vida La Diva.

Father Christmas then turned up with presents, delighting children and families.

And Bromsgrove District Council chairman, Coun Sam Ammar, led the countdown at 5pm.

The village was illuminated when Norma and Kylo from Jellybabies Nursery and Pre-School and Elizabeth – the Young Creatives winner – were given the honour of pushing the plunger.

A snow machine also added that little bit of ‘white Christmas’ magic.

Organiser Tony Maslen said: “Each year we think it can’t get any bigger and then it does the following one.

“It was a fantastic turn-out, especially considering how cold it was, and a really good atmosphere.

“We’d like to wish everyone in Rubery and beyond a very happy Christmas.”
