THERE was plenty of Commonwealth fun as the Queens Baton Relay ran into Sanders Park on Saturday.
Baton bearers took part in the run through Sanders Park before the relay continued on to Kidderminster.
Ruby Brett is 13 and has tuberous sclerosis and has recently ran the Great Junior Run to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
She was nominated by her grandad.
Bromsgrove District Council’s nominated baton bearer, Leanna Horne was chosen to be the final carrier of this section of the relay.
There were events at the bandstand for another 90 minutes after the baton had left Bromsgrove.
Entertainment on the day included demonstrations from Bromsgrove Gymnastics club, the Music Bus from seven arts and the Bromsgrove Festival.
The day was also used as the 20th anniversary of the bandstand being commissioned for the Queens Golden Jubilee.
The baton bearers played their part in the 16th Queens Baton Relay, which aims to bring together communities across the commonwealth.
Between 40 and 130 Batonbearers have been carrying the baton every day across hundreds of villages, towns and cities throughout the UK.
The Batonbearers have been nominated for their inspirational stories and to recognise their contributions to their local area in sports, education, the arts and charity.
The Queen’s Baton Relay started its tour of the Commonwealth’s 72 nations and territories at Buckingham Palace last October.
