AN INCREDIBLE day was had by hundreds when Bromsgrove’s ‘RocKING the High Street’ coronation party took place yesterday.

Seven hours of live entertainment was on offer on the stage by WH Smith.

The event was officially opened by the Bromsgrove Court Leet and its bellman – town crier Kevin Ward – before the Bromsgrove Community Choir took to the stage.

Union Flags and programmes were handed out to the revellers and they came in handy when Kevin and Catherine Tabberner gave rousing renditions of classic ‘Last Night of the Proms’ style classics, including Land of Hope an Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.

Bryan James performed swing, Rat-Pack, soul and rock, Vintage Class brought 1940s, 50s and 60s classics to the party and singer-songwriter Erica Jean, spotlighted by BBC Introducing and Mitzy also performed.

Paul Martyn, Noisy Neighbours and Billy Smith also took to the stage before Vaseline had the High Street really rocking and Jack Read and The Shaders brought the curtain down on a memorable day.




People could also have a selfie with a cardboard cut-out of King Charles at the event which was organised by community champion Jules Evans in conjunction with Back Door Productions, Bromsgrove District Council and Bromsgrove Regeneration.

As the crowds made their way home, a delighted Jules said: “What a fantastic afternoon and evening we’ve had – thanks to everyone who helped put the event on and everyone who came down to enjoy it.

 

“The people of Bromsgrove came out for a party and we are delighted they chose to spend their day with us.”
