A HERITAGE STEAM locomotive known as a Black 5 worked through Bromsgrove while hauling an excursion from Norwich to Worcester on Saturday, writes Neil Gordon.
The locomotive, number 44871, was working the ‘Worcester Steam Express’ for the Railway Touring Company.
The train passed through Northfield, Bromsgrove and Droitwich around midday before arriving at Worcester’s Shrub Hill station for a four-hour break.
It departed Worcester at 4.38pm as it headed back to Norwich passing through Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Northfield at around 5pm.
Many people lined the route to see the locomotive including approx. 200 at Bromsgrove Station and another 50 at Northfield.
A diesel locomotive on the rear of the train enabled it to climb the town’s Lickey Incline without needing to stop for assistance.
