HOMELESS Birmingham will receive £750 after being chosen by shoppers at Jack’s Rubery.

The cash for good causes was generated by sales of carrier bags with customers voting for the charities or community groups they wanted the funds to go to.

Other causes – which each receive £250 for taking part – included 132nd Birmingham Guides, Acorns Children Hospice and the Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust General Charity.

Wendy Smith, a volunteer cook at Homeless Birmingham, said: “Jack’s donation allowed us to provide a hot three-course lunch to two over 50s lunch club groups, one at Reaside Community Centre, Rednal, and one at Deelands Hall, Rubery,

“We are always looking for donations to help others we would like to give a big thank you to Jack’s Rubery.”

Homeless Birmingham supports the local communities, providing a homeless street kitchen for those less fortunate.

Shoppers can now vote for one of two new charities which are eligible for the next round of funding.

Betterlife Inspirartion and Support Services CIC provides access to opportunities and supporting community groups and individuals with activities like birthday, anniversaries and parties at very reduced cost

St Oswald’s Pre-school Nursery is traditional community pre-school offering good quality educational play opportunities for two to four-year-olds, three-days-a-week.

As with the previous round, each participant has been given a £250 donation, and the charity with the most votes at the end of March will receive an additional £500.

People wanting to vote for the cause they think deserves the most cash can do so at the Jack’s Supports podium at the front of the store.

Mark Hill, Jack’s Rubery store manager, said: “We launched Jack’s Supports to give something back to the local communities that have supported us since our launch.

“Each of the charities involved in the scheme do fantastic work in the local area, and we’re delighted that we are in a position to be able to offer our support.”
