A HISTORY of Scythe Making in Belbroughton will be the subject of a presentation by Sarah Bradley taking place on Zoom at 7.30pm on February 15.
It is the latest in the series of free Bromsgrove Society local history talks and will detail how Belbroughton – now an attractive, red brick village – was once known for the manufacturing of high quality scythes.
There is now little sign of the once important trade in the village and in her talk Sarah Bradley will discuss development of this industry which reached its peak in the 19th century, employing highly-skilled craftsmen.
She will also trace its decline in the 20th century with the works closing in 1968.
A society spokesperson said: “Sarah is an excellent speaker and former resident of Belbroughton.”
